I have fairly well mannered German Short Hair Pointers that weight about 50 pounds. I decided to purchased the XL bundle and expected it might be too long, but they are adjustable by removing links.When I got it though I was shocked at how beefy this mofo is. The XL is definitely good for dogs more around 100+ pounds.I will use this on my largest dog so not to cause extra weight on the necks of my young pups.I took out 2 links to get it the same length of another one I have. I needed pliers to do it. So Id say its very very durable.With 2 links removed it now measures 20” long and weighs 9.88 oz. The metal link diameter is 0.15”. This extra diameter causes 33% more weight. You would want it to ride high on the dog’s neck for best control.At 20” long my other collars only weigh 6.70oz, due to their links being 0.125” diameter.Most of the time I can't pinch the prongs together hard enough to clasp and unclasp.Dog was pretty good on walks but started getting on a certain pregnant lady's nerves which only got worse trying to take dog on walks with one and then two kids in a stroller. Tried the gentle leader, dog did nothing until he got it off so it never worked. Got this and dog became an angel! Sometimes squirrels make dog forget to walk politely but dog remembers in short order.My dogs didn’t like it at all. But it still a great item.If you have a dog that eternally feels obligated to pull on the leash, this will teach him better in a hurry. There are other fandangled methods out there from Halti to head collars and we tried them all, only to give up in frustration. This collar works! No pain, no gain... Didn't have to use it very long or even very often. She got the message pretty quick!This flips inside out easily to slide over my big pit bull’s face and not poke him in the eye. Then reverses easily and still fits around his thick furry neck without squeezing. He’s a year and a half old strong little brute; even with the collar on it’s a pulling competition when he’s excited for a walk or run. What I love though is that he’s manageable, and the collar doesn’t hurt him even if he pulls. I swear he’s pulling about half of his normal strength with this collar on. I don’t worry he’s going yank my arm off anymore. And yes, all you dog lovers out there, he is in training to heel and not pull so much ;) Until then, I love this collar.The reason for 4 stars is that the collar leaves a gray tarnish on my dog’s white fur.I have a pit bull/lab mix with a lot of energy, and even after training she still pulled on the leash to the point where she would start gagging. She’s kinda relentless. Something had to change! I found this collar and after making sure it wouldn’t hurt her, I gave it a go and although she still pulls some, it’s not near as bad and she actually is more well-behaved with this thing on. I’ll never go back. And she actually seems excited when I put it on her. Definitely worth the money if you’re at your wits end being pulled by super strong dog!!!Spend the extra 15-20 bucks and get the real thing, the Herm Sprenger. The pinch is different on them (up the center) so you only pop it for the dog to respond. This one doesn’t have a center connection so the response to correction takes longer. Those seconds are crucial for enforcement.
